Location: Throughout Minnesota, but most common in the rich soil of the central, southern and southeastern regions. (Also found in the eastern half of the U.S., except for Gulf and South Atlantic States.)

Fun Facts: Coarse, uneven texture; straight
grain; heavy; deep-lobed, pointy leaves

Uses: Lumbercross tiesveneerflooring; cabinetry;

Full Size: 60-80 feet in height, 2-3 feet in diameter, maximum 160 feet in height and 8 feet in diameter
