Location: Rich, moist, sandy soils. Common throughout Minnesota, except in southwestern and northeastern regions. (Also in Lake and Northeast States.)

Fun Facts: Fine, uniform texture; straight grain; light; soft; low in strength; easily worked; heart-shaped leaves with large "teeth"

Uses: Raw material for the pulp and paper, hardboard,
wafer board and oriented strand board industries; wooden match sticks

Full Size: 60-70 feet in height; 1-2 feet in diameter

Age at Maturity: 40 years
